Two Russian Tu-160

Moscow, September 11, 2008 - Two Russian Tu-160

strategic bombers (Engels AF Base) have successfully completed flight in accordance with a plan of aerial guard duty.

Russian AF planes have landed at Venezuela's Libertador military airfield on Wednesday as part of military maneuvers.

The flight lasted for more than 13 hours.

During the flight Russian aircraft were accompanied by NATO fighters.

The bombers will conduct a number of training flights over neutral waters in the next few days and later return to their home base in Russia.

Russian Long-range aviation routinely fly at air patrols over neutral waters of the Arctic, Atlantic, Black Sea, Pacific, as with the base, and with operational airfields.

Flight crews raise their trainig level during flights over "textureless" area.

Russian Air Force flights are carried out in strict accordance with International regulations on the use of airspace over neutral waters, without violating the borders of other states.

Venezuela to deploy two new Russian Su-30 fighter jets
Su-30 fighter jets

CARACAS, May 30 (RIA Novosti) - Venezuela will put two new Russian Su-30 fighter planes on combat duty on Friday, bringing the total number to 22, news agency ABN cited the president as saying.

Hugo Chavez told a meeting of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela: "From Friday we will have on combat duty 22 Russian Su-30 planes, which will fulfill the role of defending the independence and sovereignty of our country."

Oil-rich Venezuela is a major purchaser of Russian weapons and hardware. In 2005-2006, Venezuela ordered weaponry from Russia worth $3.4 billion, including 24 Su-30MK2V Flanker fighters, Tor-M1 air defense missile systems, Mi-17B multi-role helicopters, Mi-35 Hind E attack helicopters and Mi-26 Halo heavy transport helicopters.

Russian fighter jet can stop in mid-flight

I don't know anything about the capabilities of modern fighter jets, but I was impressed by the maneuverability of this Russian Su-30MKI, as seen in these videos.

SU-30- Vectored

Russian SU-30- Vectored Thrust with Canards. As you watch this airplane, look at the canards moving along side of, and just below the canopy rail.

This is a video of an in-flight demonstration flown by the Russian SU-30MK fighter aircraft.

You'll not believe what you are about to see. The fighter can stall from high speed, stopping in less than a second. Then it demonstrates an ability to descend tail first without causing a compressor stall. It can also recover from a flat spin in less than a minute.

These capabilities don't exist in any other aircraft in the world today. Take a look at the video with the sound up. This aircraft is of concern to U.S. and NATO planners. We don't know which nations will soon be flying the SU-30MK, hopefully China isn't one of them.
